A Vörösfenyő Székelyföldön az ember jelképe, a lánynak tartották. Úgy vélték csak az erdő keleti oldaláról szabad kivágni holdfogyatkozáskor, mert ilyenkor legkevesebb benne a nedvesség s ekkor hasad a legjobban, de nem olyan könnyen, mint a Tölgy, aki az európai erdők királya, az ég és viharistenek szent fája. Úgy tartották, magához vonzza a villámokat. Jellegzetes magyar fa, magyar heraldikai motívum.
